A designer and a strategist, Philipp Thesen is a thought leader in the fields of strategic design and of the digital transformation of products, processes and business models. He is a design professor specialized in human-system-interaction at the Damstadt University (h_da). The exploration of digital technologies und artificial intelligence, as well as the strategic development of integrated hardware and software service innovations is at the core of his academic work.

As the previous Chief Design at Deutsche Telekom, Philipp Thesen was responsible for the design of all the company’s products and digital services, and also for the design strategy and the worldwide realisation and implementation of design principles in over 20 countries. As Design Strategist and Executive Creative Director he supervised the design development of a broad range of hardware and software service innovations, which were awarded internationally with more than 150 design awards. 

Prof. Philipp Thesen started his career as a designer and creative director at international ad agencies, and later began consulting various companies from different industries about design strategies and innovation. Since 2006 he is a lecturer and visiting professor for Strategic Design at various universities in Germany and Switzerland. He is an advisory board member of the Design Management Institute in Boston, a member of the Art Directors Club and of the German Design Council, as well as a jury member in numerous international design competitions. In 2018 Philipp Thesen was elected one of the ten most important German strategic minds by the magazine W&V.
